The Boys: first trailer for new season drops alongside September release date

God help us all!

The Boys is one of Amazon’s most popular exclusive series on its Prime Video streaming platform and its franchise is about to get even bigger.

Now entering its fourth season, The Boys is a live-action adaptation developed by Eric Kripke and is inspired by the comic book series of the same name from Darick Robertson and Garth Ennis.

Check out the first trailer for Gen V below!

If you’re unfamiliar with the story of The Boys, then we’ll explain it briefly, spoiler free. Superheroes are plenty on planet Earth, however, not all are heroes. In fact, it seems that most are far removed from being any sort of friendly neighbourhood saviour, none perhaps more so than Homelander.

Superheroes are run by an evil corporation known as Vought International that not only monetizes the collective group of ‘heroes’ labelled as ‘The Seven’, but also manipulates the public to believe that they’re here to help them, which is far from the truth. Thankfully, a small group of vigilantes led by Billy Butcher, want nothing more than to expose and bring Vought International down once and for all. Oh, and The Boys is incredibly violent and crude, so there is that too.

At the time of writing, while the release date of The Boys season four hasn't been confirmed by Amazon, it is hoped to launch towards the end of this year at the earliest. Unfortunately, we may actually be waiting longer than expected for the fourth season, due to the ongoing WGA strikes. However, until that time arrives, a new spin-off series has been announced with Gen V.

Gen V will premiere on Prime Video on 29 September 2023 with season one consisting of eight episodes. “Set at America's only college exclusively for young adult superheroes (run by Vought International), Gen V explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test,” reads the series synopsis.

In related news, two of Amazon’s most popular superpowered characters, Omni-Man of Invincible as well as the aforementioned Homelander have been confirmed as playable characters in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1.

Will Gen V be able to live up to the standards set by the popular The Boys? Only time will tell. We just hope that for the sake of its characters, they don’t anger “America’s Saviour”.
