GTA Vice City is getting a gorgeous next-gen remaster in GTA 5's engine

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is being imported over into GTA V's RAGE Engine thanks to Revolution Team.

The talented Revolution Team is working on a next-gen remaster mod for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City using Grand Theft Auto V’s RAGE Engine.

After the excitement of the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, we’re in somewhat of a drought again. It’s unlikely we’ll hear more on GTA VI for several months. After all, with a vague launch window of 2025, GTA VI can’t peak with its marketing too soon. A financial report has seemingly narrowed down the game’s launch window though. You can always rely on eagle-eyed fans to spot the tiniest of details. Some even went as far as locating the trailer’s strip club in real life. That’s dedication. We’ve got a long wait ahead of us but in the meantime, you can feast your eyes on the latest trailer for Revolution Team’s Vice City remaster.

Unfortunately, Revolution Team’s project is also due out in 2025. That being said, the developers are providing regular updates so that should satisfy our GTA cravings. As reported by DSOGaming, the next-gen mod will import all of Vice City’s missions into the RAGE engine. The final product should include an improved version of the city, as well as improved vehicles and weapons.

It’s the Xbox roster of vehicles and character models that are being imported over. Weapons and the city itself will be taken from the Definitive Edition. It’s believed that while Revolution Team will endeavour to improve 3D textures, there are no plans to increase item polygon counts. The remaster will also include all of Vice City’s classic radio stations, plus cutscenes will be enhanced with lighting improvements and better particle effects.

All in all, it sounds like the project is shaping up nicely. You can follow Revolution Team on YouTube to keep up with the mod’s progress. It sounds like it’s already gone down well with fans. “Very ambitious project. This is the Definitive Edition I always wanted,” said one. I quite agree.
