We're now less than one day away from Microsoft's Xbox Series X gameplay event, and the excitement is tangible. We know that the company will be showing more first-party titles in response to the disastrous reception of its last "gameplay reveal" event. We also know that among those games, we'll be getting our first in-depth look at Halo Infinite in action.

But what else can we expect to see beyond that? PlayStation has already announced sequels to Marvel's Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn, so Microsoft really needs to bring out some famous faces and big guns to draw fans in. I mean, the company could rely entirely on Halo Infinite... but I doubt that it will.

The good news is that it sounds like Microsoft will, indeed, be bringing at least one of its classic franchises out of retirement for the Xbox Series X event. According to two industry insiders, the long-rumoured Fable 4 will be finally be shown off in all its glory. We're not talking a brief CG teaser, either, but an actual in-engine trailer.

This comes via Klobrille and Shinobi602, two insiders with proven track records when it comes to leaking and predicting Xbox news. Over on Resetera, Shinobi confirmed that Fable 4 will be at the event, but didn't give any further details. In an attempt to set expectations to a more reasonable level, Klobrille explained that it will be less of a gameplay deep dive like Halo Infinite, and more of an in-engine reveal trailer - similar to the Horizon Forbidden West debut at the PS5 event.

As always, take these rumours with a pinch of salt until we hear something official. It would be mighty surprising if Fable 4 didn't feature at all, however. The game is rumoured to have been in development for some time now. Back in 2018, it was reported that Forza developer Playground Games was hiring staff to work on a AAA open world RPG, widely believed to be a new Fable.

Earlier this month, it was discovered that Microsoft had renewed the trademark for Fable with "intent to use". Essentially, this implies that Microsoft has a "bona fide intention to use the mark in commerce". In other words, it clearly has plans for Fable, and those plans will most likely be revealed during tomorrow evening's event.

The Xbox Series X will kick off tomorrow (July 23rd) at 5pm BST, so be sure to check it out to see whatever Microsoft has up its silky sleeves. Oh boy do I hope it's Fable.
