Whether it be a totally new console generation or a revised version of a current model, new video game consoles are about as inevitable as Thanos.
However, what perhaps isn't as inevitable is a new console being announced by a fierce revival. In this instance, it seems that Microsoft has announced a new PlayStation console on behalf of Sony.
Ever since the original PlayStation was released all the way back in 1994, Sony has released at least one console revision for each generation. Some consoles may be smaller and some a little more powerful or perhaps a little bit of everything, and we’re sure that the PS5 will be no exception. After all, rumours of a PS5 Slim or Pro have been making the internet rounds for quite some time already.

As reported by Kotaku, during the recent court case between Microsoft and the US market regulator, the FTC which is attempting to block the green brand's $68.7 billion takeover of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft claims that Sony expects to release a PS5 Slim by the end of 2023. What’s more, it is claimed that it will have an RRP of $399.99 (about £315).
Additionally, a section of a document provided during the court case claims that not only is Sony planning on releasing a revised model of its current console by the end of this year but is also allegedly releasing: a handheld version of the PlayStation 5 for under $300 (about £235).
Obviously, we shouldn't take this report as gospel. That being said, there is likely to be some truth behind the claims. We know that Sony is releasing a handheld streaming device, which could very well be the handheld console that Microsoft spoke of, rather than a new PS Vita, so to speak.
If Sony is to officially announce a PS5 Slim or Pro in the near future, its reveal will likely take place during the PlayStation Showcase event, and not by Microsoft in court, or at least that’s what Sony will hope.
