The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the most beloved titles in Nintendo’s history for being the Zelda franchise’s first step into 3D. While its story, locations, characters and dungeons are continuously praised, it does have some low points, one of which being the infamous Water Temple...
Now, 25 years later, fans have discovered a hidden trick that makes certain sections of the temple much easier to navigate.
Twitter user chikara_shuzei shared gameplay, captured through the Nintendo Switch, of them moving through one of the Water Temple's many rooms. This room in particular, requires players to slowly run up an incline whilst avoiding moving blade traps. The player needs to get to the top of the slope without stopping, which makes good timing essential to avoid being knocked back down.

But, the video reveals that shooting the moving blade traps with an Ice Arrow, temporarily freezes them in place. By shooting and freezing all three, the player can safely get to the top without having to worry about any hazards, job done!
This handy little trick can also be used on other blade traps found in the game, making it a good option for players who aren’t confident around them or just want to make life a little bit easier.
It’s safe to say that a lot of long-time fans of the game had no idea that this was an option, and expressed their excitement, and disbelief, in the replies.

One user confessed: “I didn't know you could freeze them... I would spend like 30 minutes running into spikes until I timed it perfectly, lol.”
Another added: “20+ years of playing this game and I’m learning this now…..”
Admittedly it is impressive that a 25-year-old game is still finding ways to surprise its players, especially one that’s been routinely picked apart for lore, easter eggs, and speedrunning strategies.

It just goes to show that Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still one of the all-time greatest Zelda games ever made, at least until Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom drops on Nintendo Switch.
