The rivalry between DC’s the Caped Crusader and the Clown Prince of Crime has stood the test of time. Well, at least in the history of comic books. The Joker made his first appearance over 80 years ago in Batman #1 during the spring of 1940. Fun fact, this issue also introduced Catwoman for the first time too.

Since that time, Batman and the Joker have been at odds with one another becoming quite possibly the most storied comic book rivalry in history. At this point, despite the danger that each poses to one another, it seems that Batman and Joker cannot live without each other and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We thought that the Joker never looked scarier than in The Batman Who Laughs, which was an evil supervillain that is a terrifying cross between Batman and Joker. Well, we thought he was the scariest, until now.

As reported by Comicbook.com, issue one of the new Batman: The Brave and the Bold series introduced a Joker that not only looks creepy, but he’s eerily silent too. This series is a new anthology that tells new tales of the Dark Knight, along with some of his favourite allies and villains.

The first issue features the latest version of the Joker, created by Tom King and Mitch Gerads. Some fans have described this version of the Joker as “cosmically scary”.

This particular issue of The Brave and the Bold series is called The Winning Card and is described as “a horrifying four-part retelling of the first bloody clash between Joker and the Batman.”

However, it’s not just the look of the Joker that is making fans' skin crawl, but also his use of vocal dialogue or lack of. Instead of taunting Batman with audible words, the Joker only communicates using silent film interstitial title cards. Eat your heart out Mr. Mime, you creepy b******!

The new Batman: Brave and the Bold series is available now at all good comic book retailers. In related news, LEGO has announced a 3,981-piece Batcave set
