Black Superman reboot in active development

It’s been a rocky few months for DC. Back in August, Warner Bros. Discovery pulled the plug on Batgirl starring Leslie Grace despite the fact that production had wrapped. It’s a move that hugely displeased fans as the film also would’ve marked the return of Michael Keaton as Batman. Warner Bros. claimed the cancellation would allow them to focus on “great DC films” like The Flash. Yikes.

That’s another can of worms. Lead actor Ezra Miller is currently facing the possibility of up to 26 years in prison after pleading not guilty to charges of felony burglary. On top of all this, DC’s latest release Black Adam has earned an abysmal Rotten Tomatoes score. There is some good news though. Warner Bros. and DC’s Black Superman project remains in development.

Back in February, Warner Bros. announced that Ta-Nehisi Coates would be penning a Black Superman screenplay whilst J.J Abrams would produce the film. Very few details were given but insiders did confirm that Warner Bros. were committed to finding a black director to helm the project. Since then, updates have been thin on the ground but despite the Batgirl debacle, pre-production continues.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed this fact but is unable to pinpoint exactly where the project is at in its production cycle. It’s also unknown if J.J Abrams is still involved given that several of his other DC projects have been axed. Casting details also remain non-existent although fans are casting their dream picks and Michael B. Jordan is cropping up a lot.

In other Superman related news, it was teased earlier this week that Man Of Steel 2 has finally entered development and will see fan-favourite Henry Cavill return to the role.
