The last several Call Of Duty games have embraced a creative approach to DLC, it's fair to say.
Over the last few years, Call Of Duty: Warzone has introduced guest characters like Rambo, Leatherface, and even Godzilla as the series leaves realism in the rearview mirror.
By all accounts, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 looks to be a real return to the series' gritty roots when it releases October 28. What we've seen of the single-player campaign looks astounding, and based on the general feedback to the recent beta, multiplayer is a blast.
Naturally, developer Infinity Ward will work hard to support Modern Warfare 2 with brand-new content for at least a year. We've already heard rumours of single-player campaign DLC, as well as a "greatest hits" map pack that would bring back nearly every classic map from the 2009 Modern Warfare 2.

Now we're hearing that Modern Warfare 2 (the 2022 version, that is) will be getting new playable operators in the form of several famous footballers.
According to a report from prominent Call Of Duty leaker @TheGhostOfHope, ten footballers will be coming to Modern Warfare 2. In-game files which have since been verified by Insider Gaming make reference to the following footballers: Aksel, Connor, Klaus, Luna, Messi, Neymar, Pogba, Roze, Reyes, Gromsco.
In-game files such as this are typically the first indication of new characters joining a Call Of Duty game. It's where we learned about the likes of Leatherface and Rambo before their official announcements.
However, it's worth remembering that nothing is guaranteed until Activision officially announces it. While the general consensus is that these footballers could join the game as playable characters, others have speculated it could be related to a potential FIFA World Cup event in 2023. Certainly, it'd feel pretty strange to see Neymar and Messi drop from the sky before shooting you in the face with a Lachmann-556. Then again, Snoop Dogg came to Warzone last year so I guess anything is possible.
