'Deadpool 3' Writers Promise The One Thing Fans Want The Most

'Deadpool 3' Writers Promise The One Thing Fans Want The Most

In a recent interview, the writers for Deadpool 3 confirmed that the film will be R-rated, and won't be "Disney-fied".

In early 2019, after Disney acquired Fox, Marvel regained the film rights to a few notable franchises - those being the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and also Deadpool.

Deadpool and its sequel were brilliant, and known for being unabashedly R-rated in basically every way you can think of - it was part of what made the films so different to the many family-friendly superhero movies on the market. For that reason, you can understand why some fans were worried that Deadpool’s introduction to the MCU would see him toned down or changed to fit Disney’s vibe. However, the writers for the third movie have assured us that that isn’t the case.

Check out Deadpool's hilarious reaction to 2021's Free Guy trailer below.

As reported by IGN, in an interview with Playlist, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick said that Deadpool isn’t going to be “Disney-fied”: “We were used to doing things our way, so there are differences, but I think the great part is that Marvel’s been incredibly supportive,” Reese said. "They are gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know? It’s not like any particular joke may be the one that they say, ‘you know, that's too far,’ that could happen, but to this point, it’s been nothing but support.

“It’s been nothing but, ‘how can we help you? What from our universe would you like to use? How, how can we make your life easy?’ And we’re gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool,” he continued, talking about Marvel’s input on the movie. “This is not going to be the Disney-fied Deadpool. So they're awesome, and now it’s up to us to come through and justify that faith.”

When directly asked if Deadpool 3 is going to be R-rated, there was no doubt in Reese’s mind: “They’re not gonna mess with the tone,” he said. “We’ve always been told it can be R-[rated], and we’re proceeding as if it’s R. We would like it to be R, we always have, so I don’t think that’ll change.”

So, no need to worry then. There’s currently no official release window for Deadpool 3, although there’s been speculation that it could come out some time next year - we’ll have to wait and see.
