EA Executive Isn't Against Call Of Duty Going Xbox Exclusive

Did you enjoy Modern Warfare II’s first beta weekend? If you missed out on all the fun, the beta reopens for all platforms this coming Saturday, 24 September. It’s certainly an exciting time for Call of Duty fans. Just last week, Warzone 2.0 was finally unveiled in addition to Modern Warfare II’s own multiplayer map. Amidst all of this though, there is an elephant in the room. That’s right. The future exclusivity of Call of Duty is still up for debate.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it was planning to acquire Activision, leading many to believe that the CoD franchise would become an Xbox exclusive. Microsoft assured fans that the acquisition would not affect the series for “several years,” before later revealing that making CoD an Xbox exclusive “wouldn’t be profitable.” Extra fuel has been thrown on the fire though as EA’s CEO has revealed that he’s all for making CoD an Xbox exclusive.

EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson recently told attendees of a Goldman Sachs event (thanks GameSpot) that if CoD was to become an Xbox exclusive, it would be good news for EA's own Battlefield series. Wilson explained: “In a world where there may be questions over the future of Call of Duty and what platforms that might be on or might not be on, being platform agnostic and completely cross-platform with Battlefield, I think is a tremendous opportunity.”

In other words, it looks like Wilson is hoping that those who may potentially lose access to CoD turn to Battlefield instead. It’s an idealist thought given the state of Battlefield 2042 upon release but hey, what are we if we cannot dream?
