The Dynasty Warriors movie, which is slated to premiere at the end of April, just got a shiny new trailer and it is brilliant, bombastic, and bizarre. That's bang on for the hack 'n' slash series, you'll be happy to hear.

Helmed by HMV Digital China and in collaboration with developer Koei Tecmo, the project has been floating about since 2016. Filming was completed one year afterwards, in late 2017, and it took the team to China and New Zealand to recreate the historical setting of the battles in the games. The post-production phase has actually taken place over the course of twelve months, and the production companies were aiming for a release in 2019. However, it is likely that work was impacted by the coronavirus crisis, which put it in similar situations to lots of other movies planned for release in the last year, and the movie was then set to release on April 29th in Hong Kong and on April 30th in China.

Roy Hin Yeung Cho is the director of the movie, and the cast is really something. In the role of Lu Bu is The White Storm's Louis Koo, and Yuan Shao and Cao Cao are played by Ray Liu and Wang Kai, respectively. General Guan Yu is played by Han Geng, Justin Cheung is played by Zhang Fei, Diao Chan is played by Gülnezer Bextiyar, and Carina Lau is credited in the movie but her character has not been revealed at the moment. The story itself will draw from Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong, and therefore fans will look forward to recognising the late Eastern Han dynasty and Three Kingdoms era in detailed costume and set design, as well as having their minds blown by the sensational visual effects.

And when I say "sensational," I do mean the very definition of the word. This latest trailer is chock-a-block with seismic waves, flips of every kind, flaming swords, icy blades, bolts of lightning, and battles on an epic scale. You've got to wonder though, if you were just a regular Joe, fighting in these skirmishes because you've not got much of a choice, would you just totally give up when you see someone literally eviscerating your co-workers with magical abilities? I probably would. No offense. But you've got to know when you're beaten. Fingers crossed that the movie gets a worldwide release in the future, because this looks cracking.
