Ewan McGregor Set To Appear As Obi-Wan In Another Star Wars Spinoff Series

The way the Star Wars universe is expanding at such a rate makes me feel like I'm watching the Marvel Universe all of a sudden. References to characters, previous shows, and events in book and comics are in abundance in Star Wars shows, and you can't ever be sure what cameos you'll see - how many friendly faces did we end up seeing in The Mandalorian?

So, although we know for certain that Ewan McGregor is coming back to the world of Star Wars for his own Obi-Wan Kenobi series, we're also hearing that he'll have a recurring role in another show altogether.

Big potential spoilers for future Star Wars shows follow, so read on at your discretion.

Okay, so according to a report from The Illuminerdi, we can expect to see McGregror's troubled Jedi show up in Andor. For those that might have forgotten in all the excitement of roughly 500 Star Wars projects having been announced, Andor follows the story of Cassian Andor before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which, um, was the film for the lead up to Episode 4: A New Hope.

Rogue One, spoilers, is the story of the rebels who manage to get the plans for the Death Star. No surprises for guessing because Disney couldn't exactly put these characters into the original films, so after they successfully complete the mission the base they're on is destroyed, killing almost the entire cast. This is why Andor is yet another step backwards in the Star Wars timeline.

Cassian Andor will of course be played once again by Diego Luna, and now we know one of the other main characters we'll see during the series is, of course, Obi-Wan Kenobi. How much will he appear? Hard to say right now, but it'll be more than one appearance at least. Both these series are set to take place between the 3rd and 4th films in the Star Wars universe, so it makes sense that we'd see some cross over between the stories so Disney gets you really invested.

Those aren't the only two familiar faces we'll see, according to The Illuminerdi's report - we've also got appearances from Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O'Rielly too. Andor is currently in production with a likely release date set for next year on Disney+.
