Cory Barlog is a very cheeky man. The God Of War director is probably best known for leading development on one of the greatest single-player adventure games ever made, but those that follow him on Twitter will also know he spends a good chunk of his spare time playfully screwing with people for kicks and giggles.
The developer has made no secret of the fact that he'd love to make a video game adaptation of the hit Star Wars Disney Plus show The Mandalorian. He said as much on Twitter late last year, which is exactly why fans have been whipped into a frenzy by a series of tweets shared by the director just days ahead of E3 2021.
Take a look at some of our favourite PlayStation 4 games - including God Of War - below!
Taking to Twitter ahead of the pre-E3 Summer Games Fest event, Barlog shared a series of tweets that specifically references The Mandalorian. "Video games are a complicated profession," he wrote, followed by a GIF of the show. "All devs, at all studios, across all platforms, and of all team sizes, are Mandalorians," he added in a follow up.
While this probably doesn't mean anything given Barlog's track record for messing with fans on Twitter, fans are still getting excited over the possibility of a video game adaptation of The Mandalorian. Even leaving aside the fact Barlog has said in the past he'd love to adapt the series, we've heard reports that just such a video game is currently in development.
Earlier this year, XboxEra founder and industry insider Nick "Shpeshal Ed" Baker claimed to have heard from one of his sources that someone is making a Mandalorian game. It's not clear which developer is handling the adaptation, but we do know that God Of War developer SIE Santa Monica Studio has a second project on the go alongside the in-development God Of War sequel. Could it be?
This is pure speculation at this point, of course. A video game based on The Mandalorian would obviously be a no-brainer given the show's popularity and the fact that any and all developers and publishers can finally play in the Star Wars universe if they have the right idea. Whether or not Barlog and Santa Monica Studio are actually involved remains to be seen, but even if he was just trolling us on Twitter, I'd put money on him knowing something about what's going on. Let's hope we learn something at E3 this weekend!
