Twenty years on, it's time this game got a remaster for new players.

The trailer for Metal Gear Solid 2, shown in E3 2000, is one of the most atmospheric, exhilarating and exciting examples of what video games could be. Now, with some help from a handy artificial intelligence, the trailer has been remastered to a glorious 4K resolution.

Interestingly and coincidentally, there are whispers on the wind that there is a new Metal Gear Solid HD Collection in the works for the PlayStation 5. The original was composed of Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. However, this one would include Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Combine that possible leak with the knowledge that Konami is willing to dole out its properties to other studios and a new Metal Gear game with upgraded visuals and gameplay doesn't seem so outlandish.

In June, Konami and Bloober Team announced their collaboration and while Silent Hill wasn't specifically stated, it didn't stop fans from tripping over themselves with their emotions. The publisher said that it is "excited to work with Bloober Team and other highly regarded development partners to produce games from existing and new IPs," so we'll have to hold our horses on that front.

Yet, when it comes to Konami, aren't we tired of propping up our ponies? Bracing our broncos? Mollycoddling our mustangs? Don't we wish the company would just hand over the games that we so sorely miss?

Yes. And, as my mother would tell me, "I want" doesn't get. However, the Topaz Gigapixel artificial intelligence does get us an overhauled version of the E3 2000 trailer for Metal Gear Solid 2 and it is gorgeous. Thanks to Digital Foundry, the HD DVD trailer has been sent through the software which provides it with the highest quality foundation from which to transform the 20 year old visuals. Additionally, this iteration was exclusive to Japan so even the Metal Gear mavens amongst us might be surprised at the scenes here.

All in all, it looks great and still retains that atmosphere and emotion of the original. If we're lucky, it could turn the company's head and remind them that hey, those stealth action-adventure games about snakes in various states of matter were and are well-loved.
