'Mortal Kombat 11' Director Wants John Wick As DLC

'Mortal Kombat 11' Director Wants John Wick As DLC

Gun-fu for all.

The Mortal Kombat series isn't shy about bringing in as many weird and wonderful guest characters as possible to join in with the brutal, spine-breaking fun.

Mortal Kombat X gave us the Xenomorph from Alien and Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, while the recently-released Mortal Kombat 11 currently has The Terminator, and plans to release Joker and Spawn DLC in 2020 - but if Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has his way, the guest characters won't stop there.

Speaking to Brazilian publication Meu PS4 (via Game Rant), Boon revealed three guest characters that he originally wanted to include in Mortal Kombat 11's guest roster, and you might be surprised to learn that the effortlessly breathtaking Keanu Reeves himself takes up a good two thirds of the list.

If you haven't already guessed, two of Boon's picks were Neo from The Matrix and the grizzled assassin John Wick - both roles made famous by Keanu Reeves. The actor is already breaking into the gaming world thanks to his appearance in the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, so it'd be cool to see one of his most iconic roles throwing down in Mortal Kombat 11.

It's unclear exactly why neither character ultimately never made it into the game as DLC, although I can assume that in the case of Neo at least, the franchise might be just a little too violent. He certainly wouldn't fit in alongside brutal killers such as The Terminator and Joker, that's for sure.

John Wick, on the other hand? Well, he could bring all kinds of pain to the NetherRealm fighter, and I remain hopeful that one day the gun-fu master finds his way into the game to do battle.

Weirdly enough, Neo apparently very nearly appeared in another NetherRealm-developed brawler, the DC heroes mashup Injustice 2. The Matrix hero would have been a much better fit in that particular game, so it's a shame that the deal reportedly fell through in the end. I feel I've been robbed of the only chance I ever had to see Neo fight Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Boon's also reportedly expressed a desire to include a character from the Street Fighter franchise, which would have been pretty sweet - although I'm not sure Capcom would be 100 percent on board with someone like Ryu having their legs pulled off by Scorpion in the gruesome detail Mortal Kombat 11 provides.

For now, we'll have to be content with getting our Keanu Reeves video game fix through the fun - if flawed - John Wick Hex for PC.
