The newly announced Mortal Kombat 1 is shaping up to be the squelchiest, splattiest and overall goriest game of 2023, and we already had Dead Island 2. Whether you think that’s a good thing or not is entirely up to you.
Seriously though, although the Mortal Kombat series is no stranger to gore, that CGI reveal trailer certainly was something - I don’t know a single person who wasn’t caught completely off guard by it. We’re yet to see any gameplay footage, but we do know that the game will be created using Unreal Engine 5, so it’s probably going to look pretty crisp.

Included in the Premium and Kollector’s Editions of Mortal Kombat 1 is the Kombat Pack - DLC which will give players access to an additional six playable fighters and five Kameo Fighters (as well as a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage). Anyway, as reported by Eurogamer, we may have just found out who those additional fighters are thanks to a leak via Amazon Italy.

Reportedly, a product listing on the site detailed every character who’ll be included in the Kombat Pack. While this information has now been removed from the listing, Eurogamer writes that Takeda, Quan Chi and Ermac were claimed to be included, as well as DC antihero Peacemaker, Invincible’s Omni-Man, and even The Boys’ Homelander. Meanwhile, the Kameo Fighters will apparently be Khameleon, Ferra, Mavado, Tremor and Johnny Cage (the latter we already knew would be included, of course).
As surprising and borderline unbelievable some of these choices may seem, Mortal Kombat has included third party guest characters in the past, including Terminator and Rambo in Mortal Kombat 11. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t take this information with a pinch of salt until it’s officially confirmed, but the addition of Omni-Man and Homelander definitely isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch on 19 September.
