Gamer Creates Lookalikes in 'Red Dead Redemption 2 Online' And The Resemblance Is Uncanny

Rockstar Games never counted on Waluigi as a cowboy.

Red Dead Redemption Online is the closest thing we'll get to Westworld, letting players wreak havoc in the Wild West on an enormous stage. One person has chosen to spend their hours in this game recreating famous fictional characters as cowboys, and seriously, we're impressed.

HeySoloSoyYo on Reddit has been sharing their work on the game's subreddit for some time now, and with any character creator, you'd think there would be limits to the number of faces one could meld from its sliders. Well, hold onto your hat, because they have created characters from The Terminator to Homer Simpson to Geralt of Rivia to CJ from Grand Theft Auto... the list goes on and on and it's a brilliant endeavour that expectedly earns the admiration of the other players in the game. The level of effort expended on these characters is clear, ensuring their features are as close to the original's as is possible. Then, it's a case of rummaging into the oldey-timey wardrobes available in the game and choosing clothes that make sense within the world and for the character.

For example, HeySoloSoyYo picked a bright shirt and denim trousers with suspenders for their Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi cowboys. There are denim overalls in Red Dead Online, but these are covered in dirt, and the player wanted these characters' colours and personalities to shine. I'm sure there's going to be a handful of you reading this who are wondering why someone would go to such lengths to dress up as fictional characters from other games instead of actually playing Red Dead Online. Fortunately, we had a chance to catch up with HeySoloSoyYo on their creative process.

Rockstar Games has been criticised for leaving Red Dead Online in the lurch when it comes to new content, and along these lines, the player started recreating characters as it gave them something to work on in between updates. For real people, like Elvis, HeySoloSoyYo uses photo references to make sure they're as accurate as possible to the person's face. On the other hand, stylised characters like Homer Simpson are created as a result of their attempt to turn exaggerated features into realistic ones.

"It depends on the character, but usually [it] takes 20 to 45 minutes to create," explained the player. "What makes a good character creator like me? Well, that flatters me, but in my opinion, it's just having a little imagination and being bored. Actually, I have always liked creating characters in video games, I spent a lot of time in Dark Souls for example creating characters."

If you're wanting to flex those creative muscles like HeySoloSoyYo, there's one thing to bear in mind. "One tip is that they must have a lot of money," added the player. "Because what you want does not always come out the first time... take it as if you were going to draw, I feel that it is something similar." Go forth, my fellow artists, and let inspiration strike you like a wild horse kicking you off its back.
