It’s rapidly approaching a year since God of War Ragnarök was released and with no confirmation of a third instalment, fans are taking matters into their own hands.
God of War and God of War Ragnarök are the rebooted additions to the much-loved God of War series. First released in 2005, the original instalment was the first of three games that told the story of Spartan warrior, Kratos. Rereleased in 2018 by Santa Monica Studio, Kratos was joined by his son Atreus and the two continued their journey across a land inspired by Norse mythology. After the arrival of its sequel God of War Ragnarök in November 2022, fans are now eagerly awaiting news of the next instalment and talk has turned to where it could take place.

As mentioned, the latest God of War series takes place in ancient Scandinavia. However, some players are hoping Kratos and Atreus will broaden their horizons and explore other lands. Perhaps Egypt for example? Luckily for them, one Youtuber and video creator took to Unreal Engine 5 to reveal what a possible God of War 6 could look like if it was set in Egypt. In the trailer we see Kratos as he explores epic sandy landscapes and hidden tombs before finding himself within ancient pyramids lined with sarcophagi. The trailer ends with him saying (or growling), “we have a long journey ahead”.

Although there has been no confirmation of a God of War instalment set in Egypt, it would be interesting to see Kratos and Atreus exploring a world of Egyptian mythology as opposed to the Norse setting we know and love. With the original God of War series inspired by Greek mythology, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched for Santa Monica Studio to switch it up. I for one would love to see the monotone giant, Kratos go head-to-head with a Sphinx’s riddles.
