GTA 6 map should be smaller and denser, says ex Rockstar dev

One previous Rockstar developer is hoping that Grand Theft Auto 6 is smaller and denser compared to its predecessors.

One former Rockstar Games developer has said they think that Grand Theft Auto VI’s map should be smaller and denser compared to some of its predecessors.

After all of the hype of last week, I thought I might never have to say the following sentence again, but unfortunately I do: The wait for a Grand Theft Auto VI reveal continues. Insiders were convinced that Rockstar Games would finally lift the lid on GTA VI last week, particularly after a private video appeared on the studio’s site. The ebbing flow of hype certainly had an effect on Rockstar’s stocks but we ended the week announcement-less. It’s now looking as if a reveal might not come until next year but in the meantime, one ex-dev is saying that GTA VI’s map should be smaller than what fans have in mind.

Take a look at this incredible Vice City remaster mod, the rumoured setting of GTA VI.

We have no idea what GTA VI’s map will look like in its final form, but we’ve heard plenty of tidbits from so-called insiders. It’s thought to be the franchise’s biggest to date, but one previous developer is hoping that that isn’t the case. In an interview with PCGamesN, Tony Gowland said, “In terms of what I’m hoping for, I personally would like it to bring in a little bit in terms of size of the world.”

Gowland previously worked on Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, Chinatown Wars, and Red Dead Redemption. He continued, “I think a smaller but more densely packed location would maybe bring back some of that memorable navigation that I loved from the original.”

“The only footage I’ve seen is a couple of bits of the leaked stuff, and I stopped watching pretty quickly. I found that really heartbreaking for the team, to have all their hard work first shown to the world in such a janky and unfinished state, and I’d much rather wait for an official trailer to get really hyped."

Of course, this is just Gowland’s wishlist and not a reflection of the final product. Insiders have teased multiple cities - and even countries. All we know is that we can’t wait to see what Rockstar has produced.
