'GTA Trilogy' Under Fire Yet Again Over PlayStation Upgrades

'GTA Trilogy' Under Fire Yet Again Over PlayStation Upgrades

Just... why?

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is an impressive lesson in how to completely destroy the legacy of three well-respected games in the space of one weekend.

The remastered collection, which includes, um... versions of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, was almost immediately pulled from sale on PC during its launch weekend last month.

Rockstar was immediately flooded with complaints and refund requests over the state of the games, and the collection ended up as the worst-rated title of 2021 for a brief period. It's not the worst anymore, but it's still in the top ten. Not good, either way.

Take a look at some of the most unbelievable bits of the GTA Trilogy in action below!

While Rockstar has since issued an apology, and has released the first in a line of major updates, it's still finding ways to piss customers off with truly baffling decisions.

As spotted by popular Rockstar insider Ben Turpin on Twitter, it looks like physical generational upgrades for the trilogy are only available to Xbox users. This means that for whatever reason, those who purchase the physical edition of GTA Trilogy on PlayStation 4 will not be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version. Picking up the physical Xbox One version will, however, allow you to update and upgrade the game to its more Xbox Series version.

"Everyone can finally buy a physical version of the GTA Trilogy in most retail stores – but there’s a catch. You can’t upgrade to the PS5 version if you decide to pickup the physical version," Turpin wrote. "I strongly advise against buying it until the game is improved with more patches."

It's unclear why exactly this decision was made, or it's to do with Sony, Rockstar, or a combination of the two. Whatever the case, PlayStation users are understandably baffled and annoyed by this needlessly obtuse quirk.
