'Halo: Infinite' Developer Cancels The One Thing It Said It Wouldn't Cancel

'Halo: Infinite' Developer Cancels The One Thing It Said It Wouldn't Cancel

Halo: Infinite developers 343 Industries are no longer bringing split-screen co-op to the game.

Well this certainly isn’t the news Halo: Infinite fans wanted to hear. 343 Industries have been having an absolute nightmare of a time. As I’m sure you know, Halo: Infinite released without a co-op campaign and the playerbase soon sunk to an all-time low. It was hoped that season two would turn things around but even that was said to take away everything “fun about the campaign.” If you thought things couldn't get any worse, oh boy. They can.

Check out some of our favourite Halo: Infinite wins and fails below.

Despite originally promising the opposite, 343 Industries have officially cancelled the proposed split-screen co-op mode. The mode was announced back in 2017. Developer Bonnie Ross told fans that, “When we didn’t put split-screen in Halo 5, it was incredibly painful for the community. It erodes trust [...] There’s been a lot of learning from that. With any FPS shooters going forwards, we’ll have split-screen.” Hm, right.

343 Industries confirmed the news as a part of their Winter Update, which lands on 8 November. The update will introduce the hotly-anticipated Forge Mode (although this is a beta), plus two new multiplayer maps and online campaign co-op. There’s one huge omission though.

Local split-screen co-op will no longer be brought to Halo: Infinite. Announcing the news, developers wrote, “In order to improve and accelerate ongoing live service development, and to better address player feedback and quality of life updates, we have reallocated studio resources and are no longer working on local campaign split-screen co-op.” This is certainly news that will only be met with huge disappointment.
