Hideo Kojima has been working on his 'unusual' Xbox exclusive for six years

Hideo Kojima has been working on his 'unusual' Xbox exclusive for six years

Hideo Kojima has confessed that multiple studios looked at him like he was 'mad' when he pitched his upcoming project.

There’s no denying that Hideo Kojima has the mind of a genius. That being said, it doesn’t mean we always understand everything he creates. I’ll admit, I was left very confused by the Death Stranding 2 trailer that debuted during The Game Awards - and that hasn’t changed - but it doesn’t make me any less excited to play the game.

Kojima has lured us all in, taking us on a wacky and weird ride through his mind - and his upcoming Xbox exclusive could be the very pinnacle of that notion. The collaboration between Xbox and Kojima Productions was announced earlier this year and the only detail we were given is that the project would leverage the cloud. Well, Kojima has finally opened up about the mysterious game, teasing that it’s his most “unusual” idea yet.

Speaking of Death Stranding 2, check out the trailer below.

In an interview with IGN, Kojima confessed that he’d been working on the idea “for five or six years already”. Touching on how the game will utilise cloud technology, Kojima said: “The project required infrastructure that was never needed before, so I discussed it with lots of different big companies and gave presentations, but they really seemed to think that I was mad. It was ultimately Microsoft who showed that they understood, and now we’re working together on the project, including the technology front.”

The developer is still keeping hush-hush on exactly what the game is about. Previously though, footage appeared online supposedly from an upcoming Kojima title called Overdose. The footage starred actress Margaret Qualley in a third-person sequence which saw her running down a dark corridor before a jump scare appeared.

Kojima Productions has not commented on whether the leak is real or not, but it did demand that the footage be taken down - so make of that what you will. It doesn’t appear to be from Death Stranding 2 so perhaps it is linked to this elusive Xbox project. Time will tell.
