In a year that was absolutely stacked with some amazing video games from beginning to end, Hogwarts Legacy was perhaps a GOTY contender until the rest of 2023 happened.
Set during the 1890s, you play as a student entering the academic life at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the fifth year, to the surprise of fellow students and teachers alike. To put it simply, Hogwarts Legacy allows fans of Harry Potter to live the Wizarding World fantasy life whether you’re exploring the stunning halls of Hogwarts Castle or its surrounding areas such as the Forbidden Forest or Hogsmeade Village. Of course, there are also plenty of fun and immersive story missions too.

While publisher Warner Bros. Games or developer Avalanche Software hasn't outright confirmed Hogwarts Legacy 2, it’s surely a guarantee at this point, especially when you consider that Hogwarts Legacy was a massive commercial success becoming the best-selling video game of 2023.

That being said, should Hogwarts Legacy 2 arrive, fans have been asking questions about how certain events may play out in the sequel. As a heads up, spoilers for Hogwarts Legacy lie ahead.
“How are the sequels going to handle the first game’s consequential choices?” asked Redditor Haley3498. “When games have choices like that, the sequels either have different versions of the story to reflect your choices (like Telltale Games) or they choose a 'canon' choice based on the most common decisions of the players,” said Nate493. “Or, they're just gonna make a game with a whole different story/period.”
It's a good question as Hogwarts Legacy's ending saw players choose what to do with a powerful kind of ancient magic. “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II gave the player the choice of how the previous game went. During conversations at the start of the game there is a random chance for someone to say, 'The player character from the first game was a hero and he saved the Republic' or they will say they defeated the Republic,” replied Here-4-Info.
If/when the Hogwarts Legacy sequel arrives, it will be interesting to see if the story is a continuation or if it will be a standalone tale. Only time will tell. Hogwarts Legacy is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
