Little Nightmares 3 officially announced

If you’ve played any of the Little Nightmares games, then chances are that at least one of its horrific creatures has haunted your dreams. Case and point, that long-neck lady from Little Nightmares II still gives me the heebie jeebies!

The first two games in this series were developed by Tarsier Studios, who have seemingly moved on to new projects, but with a legacy left intact. Now, Little Nightmares III is in the safe capable hands of Supermassive Games, the same studio behind the likes of Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me and The Quarry.

Granted, Little Nightmares III is a very different project to what Supermassive Games might be used to, though they have previously aided the development of the Little Nightmares II new-gen conversion.

As soon as the announcement trailer dropped at Gamescom's Opening Night Live, fans of this fantastic horror series knew they were in for a treat with the familiar sounds of the eerie soundtrack and nightmarish world. Yet, Little Nightmares III will have something a little different from the previous two games, and that’s campaign co-op.

For the first time in the series, you’ll be able to playthrough the campaign with a buddy. Sure, having a companion by your side might reduce the fear factor, but it will be interesting to see how the co-op puzzles will work.

What’s more, for large chunks of the previous games, you are accompanied by an AI companion, so co-op is perhaps quite a natural evolution. However, if co-op isn't for you, then you can play the whole campaign solo. In case you’re wondering, the two new characters in Little Nightmares III are called Low and Alone.

“In Little Nightmares III, players will follow the journey of Low and Alone, two friends looking for a way to get out of the Nowhere,” reads the press release provided by Bandai Namco. “They will travel through the Spiral, a world filled with dangerous threats such as Monster Baby in the Necropolis. Each character carries its own iconic item – a bow and arrow for Low, a wrench for Alone – that they will use to solve puzzles and help them in their quest to escape.”

In our review of Little Nightmares II, we said: “Everything from the game's story to the claustrophobic atmosphere it creates combine into an incredibly compelling package that is a must-play for horror lovers everywhere.”

Little Nightmares III will be released sometime in 2024 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
