Marvel: Jonathan Majors to remain as Kang, 'zero' plans to recast

Despite recent reports suggesting the opposite, Marvel Studios reportedly have ‘zero’ plans to recast Kang actor Jonathan Majors following recent allegations of domestic assault and harassment made against him.

Prior to the allegations, Majors was arguably at the pinnacle of his career thus far starring in major recent releases like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III. As Kang in the MCU, Majors is set to serve as the big bad for the entirety of The Multiverse Saga. Earlier this week though, the actor was dropped by both his talent agency and public relations manager, prompting rumours that he may eventually be recast in the MCU. Actor John Boyega soon emerged as a clear fan-favourite front runner to take over as Kang.

The 33-year-old Majors was first arrested in Manhattan on 25 March where he was charged with assault and harassment regarding a domestic dispute with a woman, aged 30. The female victim was reportedly sent to hospital for treatment relating to “minor injuries to her head and neck”, local authorities confirmed. The actor’s legal team denied the allegations, adding that they would clear Majors of all charges. He was released pending investigation later that day after the victim recanted their statement.

The actor’s criminal defence lawyer Prita Chaudhry has already released text messages exchanged between Majors and the victim which she claims supports Majors’ case of innocence. In the past couple of days though, it’s been revealed that allegedly, several more women have come forward with allegations of abuse and are cooperating with the district attorney’s office, Variety reports.

Chaudhry told Variety that despite this development, “Jonathan Majors is innocent and has not abused anyone. We have provided irrefutable evidence to the district attorney that the charges are false. We are confident that he will be fully exonerated.”

For Marvel and Disney, this is shaping up to be a PR nightmare and yet, there are seemingly no plans to replace Majors in the MCU. Majors has been dropped from other roles in The Man in My Basement and Otis and Zelma. According to Deadline though (Via Forbes), there have been “zero conversations in the Marvel camp to drop Majors from the MCU.” Marvel Studios are yet to comment on the situation.
