Henry Cavill Is Totally Down To Star In A Red Dead Redemption Movie

Henry Cavill Is Totally Down To Star In A Red Dead Redemption Movie

Will it be just as emotionally devastating as the game? Yeah.

While promoting the second season of Netflix's The Witcher, actor Henry Cavill has said that he's very into the idea of starring in a Red Dead Redemption 2 adaptation.

In its presentation, the game is extremely poignant and cinematic, telling the story of a family of outlaws who become fractured as the golden age of the Wild West starts to wane. It appeals to gamers from all walks of life and became a go-to example of the power that the medium has as a form of art, a portrayal of history, and an outlet for moving narrative. Consequently, it's very easy to imagine the game getting rewritten into movie - though I'd argue that it'd be much better suited to the structure of a TV show.

Cavill is attached to four films in the future - Argylle, Enola Holmes 2, Highlander and The Rosie Project - yet that won't stop him musing on a possible video game adaptation that he would love to see and star in. "Hmmm... that's a very good one. Well, that's a tricky one, 'cause you're tying both an IP and a company together, which is a tricky thing to do, so I certainly don't want to put myself in any corners with that, but there are plenty of games out there... I've actually started playing Red Dead Redemption 2 - I know I'm a little bit late to that party - but I started playing it and I'm really enjoying it. And so, something like that I think would be fun to turn into a movie," answered the actor in an interview with Gamereactor.

Who would he play? John Marston is an obvious pick, and it's too obvious, so I'm throwing it out of the window. Try this on for size: Henry Cavill as Josiah Trelawny. The character is charming and fashionable, yet isn't afraid to sully his image by conning passersby and robbing them from under their noses. His performance would be disarming to viewers who weren't familiar with the story of Red Dead Redemption 2 and an interesting highlight amongst the ensemble.

Lately, there's been rumblings of a Red Dead Redemption remake that will arrive once the studios has cleared the decks for the support of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition. That... might take some time. My Friend Peppa Pig ended up receiving more favourable reviews amongst players and having a higher Metacritic score than Call Of Duty: Vanguard, Battlefield 2042, and GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition altogether. Rockstar Games stated that it was aware that the collection launched in a subpar state and, as an apology, offered the original versions of the games to those who shelled out for the Definitive Edition. However, these didn't work either. To cut a long story short, Rockstar Games has its hands full for the time being.
