A new Blade Runner live-action TV series is in the works with Amazon and will be set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049 and 80 years after the original cult classic movie, with Ridley Scott attached to executive produce the project.
Scott has been pursuing this show for some time now as a bible for Blade Runner was brought into being in late 2021. "We have already written the pilot for Blade Runner," said Scott in an interview with the BBC. "So, we’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, the first 10 hours." Amazon Studios has a huge number of projects in development like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Legend of Vox Machina, Fallout, Mass Effect and more, and as a result, it's tough to tell when this Blade Runner show will enter pre-production.

According to Deadline's report, it is in "priority development" at Amazon Studios, and so possible production dates will be determined once writers have been recruited and scripts have been finalised officially. Should things go well, Scott may direct either some of the episodes of the series or the entire series, claims sources close to the show.

An Alien TV show is in progress with Hulu, too, with Fargo creator Noah Hawley acting as showrunner and Scott acting as a producer. This will be an exploration of the original themes of the movie, like corporate corruption and avarice, blue collar workers and body horror, while telling a new story on a new stage.
"It’s not a Ripley story," said Hawley in an interview with Vanity Fair. "She’s one of the great characters of all time, and I think the story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don’t want to mess with it. It’s a story that’s set on Earth also. The alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a space ship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of 'What happens if you can’t contain it?' are more immediate."
