Nicolas Cage to return in Lord Of War sequel, nearly 20 years later

Nicolas Cage will return in a Lord of War sequel, nearly 20 years after the original was released.

Released in 2005 and directed by Andrew Niccol, as well as starring and being co-produced by the legendary Nicolas Cage, Lord of War told the story of an “illegal arms dealer, inspired by the stories of several real-life arms dealers and smugglers, primarily Viktor Bout.”

Speaking of long-awaited sequels, Dune: Part Two is on the way.

Interestingly, a random fact that I discovered while researching Lord of War is that the movie was officially endorsed by the human rights group Amnesty International for highlighting issues surrounding the international arms industry such as trafficking. Lord of War may have only generated a modest $72.6 million at the box office with a score of 61% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but it ultimately won audiences over, garnering a score of 84%.

As reported by Variety, directed once more by Andrew Niccol and backed by the Vendôme Group, the Lord of War sequel will begin its production at the end of this year and will see Bill Skarsgård co-star as Orlov’s (Cage) son. What’s more, according to CominSoon.net, the story in the sequel will revolve around Orlov’s son preventing his father from making big-time deals with the criminal underworld.

Orlov’s son will supposedly put together a mercenary team to take on America’s Middle East conflicts, which consequently pits father against son. Director Niccol also teased to Variety that Orlov has unfinished business - and with the movie's characters having so much room to ‘explore’, he added that ‘only the dead have seen the end of the war’. Mysterious.
