This week you can playtest an upcoming Unreal Engine 5 RPG that might as well be a spiritual successor to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
It’s called Dungeonborne and it’s a first-person dungeon crawler made with Unreal Engine 5 that you can play by yourself or with friends. If you’ve played Skyrim, it’ll be right up your street, and a good thing too since The Elder Scrolls VI isn’t coming out anytime soon.

You could even argue it blends some of the best parts of Elden Ring into its design as well. Players will be given a seemingly never-ending stash of weapons and magic spells to equip. You can use axes and swords, or you can master a variety of magic casts that blow enemies up, pull them towards you or slow their movement speed to a crawl.

Each player can choose their own class at the start of the game, and if you perish to one of the dungeon’s many monsters, you’ll be sent back to the beginning to try again.
The developers have said the game won’t purely be PvE, as a PvP arena mode will be introduced in the future, allowing you to test your might and your skills against other warriors. This will be in 3v3 battles and won’t be tied to the main game, so you can play as much as you like without worrying about losing your progress in the dungeon.
If any of that interests you, you’ll be glad to hear you can play the game for free right now. Dungeonborne is yet to officially release and its launch date hasn’t been shared at the time of writing, but PC playtests kicked off this past weekend so definitely get involved if you’re interested.
When it launches, Dungeonborne will release exclusively for PC via Steam, though its launch date remains a mystery for the foreseeable future.
