It’s certainly a wonderful console age to be in right now especially off the back of 2023 offering a plethora of fantastic titles from start to finish. However, the technical advancements of the modern era do come with caveats.
Modern video games take up a large amount of storage space, especially when it comes to AAA titles which can demand over 100GB on PC and consoles, and then some. We’re looking at you Call of Duty. So, if we can find a few tricks to save a little more storage space on consoles such as PlayStation 5, we’re all ears.

The original PlayStation 5 model has an 825GB hard drive and a couple of generations ago, that would have been more storage space than you’d ever need. Unfortunately, 825GB doesn't get you very far nowadays, especially when storage is taken down to 667.2GB due to core system files. Thankfully, the new smaller PS5 model does come with a little more storage at 1TB.

If you’ve been a PlayStation 5 gamer for a while, then you might already be aware of a few tricks to save storage space or perhaps the suggestions in this article might still be new to you. Either way, we’re happy to help. There are a couple ways that you can save PS5 storage space straight out of the box, such as deleting the game that comes pre-installed on the hard drive, Astro’s Playroom. However, we’d recommend playing this game first as it's really fun and it's also a great way to learn of all the snazzy features of the PlayStation 5 and its DualSense controller.
Another handy trick to save storage space is by turning off the feature that automatically saves gameplay clips by default when you earn a PS5 trophy. Sure, it’s nice to capture those moments, but you might not want to capture every trophy earned.
To disable this feature, first go into your PlayStation 5 settings and select ‘Captures and Broadcasts’. Then scroll down and select ‘Trophies’ under ‘Auto-Capture’. Then in the ‘Video Clips’ section, you can choose which trophy level you want captured or you can turn the feature off completely. You can also select to capture clips between 15 and 30 seconds.
Those clips saved from your trophy moments might not initially take up much storage space but over time they will certainly add up.
