PlayStation 5 owners agree the console is being replaced by PS6 way too soon

PlayStation 5 owners agree the console is being replaced by PS6 way too soon

PlayStation 5 owners are in agreement that the console is being replaced by PS6 way too soon.

We all remember being two seconds away from making a summoning circle just so we could get our hands on the PlayStation 5 back in 2020. Now according to recent rumours, the console is already coming to the end of its lifespan.

The news comes after a report by The Verge that claims due to Sony missing its sales target for the PlayStation 5, the console has now entered the “latter stage of its life cycle”. Compared to previous projections, the company is expected to sell 4 million less PlayStation 5 units in its current fiscal year ending in March 2024.

This is according to its third quarter earnings report which also stated that Sony is now expecting to hit 21 million sales rather than the expected 25 million despite a year of big exclusive releases such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the arrival of the PlayStation 5 Slim in November 2023.

As a result, Sony made a statement leading up to the four-year anniversary of the PlayStation 5. “Looking ahead, PS5 will enter the latter stage of its life cycle,” said Sony senior vice president Naomi Matsuoka, reported by Bloomberg. “As such, we will put more emphasis on the balance between profitability and sales. For this reason, we expect the annual sales pace of PS5 hardware will start falling from the next fiscal year.”

This news also comes after Sony revealed it would not be releasing “any new major existing franchise titles” during its next fiscal year but this does mean we may see some smaller titles making an appearance.

Regardless of what happens next, fans still agree that the PlayStation 5 is getting replaced way too soon. Many players took to r/technology to share their thoughts with one saying, “It feels like it’s still brand new, honestly. I feel like it came out a year ago.”

Another agreed, saying, “Latter stage, and 90% of releases are upscaled PS4 games. This gen has been pretty disappointing.”

It remains to be seen how long we have left with the PlayStation 5 but many will agree that it has not been long enough.
