My favourite PlayStation Plus free RPG is getting a major update

One of PlayStation Plus' best RPGs is getting a big update

One of my favourite video games of last year - and possibly one of my favourite RPGs of all time - is getting a major free update, and I couldn't be more excited.

If you missed Sea Of Stars last year, you missed one of the best indie games in a long time. Oh, and it's free on PlayStation Plus, so you really have no excuse not to play this stunning retro-inspired RPG - especially now it's getting a substantial update.

Developer Sabotage Studio recently confirmed that, in addition to the in-development DLC, Sea Of Stars will receive a brand-new local multiplayer mode that will allow players to explore and battle with friends.

For those that haven't played Sea Of Stars, the game's battle system is reminiscent of Super Mario RPG, so working together in combat will involve lots of well-timed button presses to block enemy attacks and deal maximum damage together.

This new mode, referred to by the developer as "Single Player+" is "currently in development". We'll learn more details soon.

I gave Sea Of Stars a 9/10 last year, and would urge anyone even remotely interested in classic RPGs to pick it up.

Here's a lil' snippet of my review: Sea Of Stars may come across to some as little more than a tribute act to the classics, but I hold no truck with such sniffy dismissiveness.

"If it is a tribute act, it’s definitely more UK Pink Floyd Experience than your mate’s crappy pub band that plays Arctic Monkeys covers. Sabotage Studios has created an unforgettable, essential RPG that stands on the shoulders of giants and boldly looks ahead to the future. Sea Of Stars is damn-near perfect, and more than deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the titles that inspired it."

Sea Of Stars is available now on... well, pretty much everything.
