Starfield will be playable even if you don't have an Xbox or PC

Starfield is just weeks away at this point, and hype is starting reach critical mass. Early access kicks off 1 September, and fans are already desperately planning their space odysseys, charting paths across the stars.

Bethesda's open-world RPG is easily one of the most-anticipated titles of the decade, but as I'm sure you probably already know, PlayStation 5 users have no choice but to watch from the sidelines. Since Microsoft went and scooped up Bethesda, Starfield will be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC. Technically, anyway.

See, while Starfield is coming exclusively to Xbox Series X/S and PC, that doesn't mean you have to own those platforms to play the game. So if you're currently on the search for the cheapest bundles so you can pick up Starfield, you don't actually need to bother with any of that. Allow me to explain, my handsome friend.

See, there's a little thing called Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This is a fancier tier of Xbox Game Pass that, among other things, gives us the ability to stream any game from the Game Pass library on almost any device with a screen. Your crappy laptop? Sure. Your Xbox One? You got it. Your mobile phone? If you really want to experience Starfield that way, sure.

Once you've subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (£12.99 a month here in the UK), you can access the Game Pass library on your chosen device. After that, just wait till 6 September! Starfield is a day one launch for Game Pass, so all you need to do is access it via the library and choose the option to play via the cloud (there's a little cloud icon you click on). This way you can play Starfield on your Xbox One, mobile device, or laptop.

One important thing to note is that this method is obviously reliant on a stable internet connection. You can get more details from Xbox on the minimum required speeds for a decent, lag-free time. But if you meet the criteria? Well then, you can dive into Starfield without having to buy a new console.
