Xbox Series X/S major new feature available right now

The latest Xbox console update has arrived and it includes an important new Variable Refresh Rate setting.

What a week it is shaping up to be for Xbox players. Major new RPG? Tick. Fresh console update with several highly-requested features? Tick.

That major new RPG is very clearly Starfield. Bethesda’s space epic has finally landed (or should I say taken flight) and on the whole, it’s been well received. In our review, we wrote, “Every now and then, a new game comes along that changes our perception of what the industry is capable of. Starfield is that game. This is beyond what we’ve come to know an open-world to be. Bethesda has created a universe that, despite its vast scale, maintains interest and an impressive attention to detail throughout.” If you’ve fired up your console to dive in, you may have noticed a few new changes, including an important update to the system’s VRR.

Take a look at our Starfield review below.

What’s VRR, I hear you say? It’s the console’s Variable Refresh Rate which is essentially a feature that improves the appearance of what you see on your screen, ensuring you see a smooth picture and don’t suffer from any frame shudders or screen tearing. Well, the latest Xbox update just vastly improved the VRR options available.

Users can now toggle their VRR settings. Simply enter your general settings, followed by TV & Display Options. Then select the Video option, and you should see a VRR dropdown menu. The update should now allow you to switch between off, always on, and gaming only providing far more customisation to perfect performance.

The latest update also introduces streaming to Discord, plus you can now invite friends to play with you more easily. My favourite though: being able to pair a new controller without standing up to press the console’s pair button. Come on, we’re all a little bit lazy.
