The latest PlayStation 5 system update is now live and it’s been roasted by players online.
System updates for any modern consoles are a necessary requirement. Whether it's Discord integration, improved chat features, new dashboard functions or just plain old system stability.
The latest system update for PlayStation 5 went live this week dubbed “version 23.01-07.20.00”, weighing in at 1.15GB. So what does the latest update bring to your PS5? Well, as it happens, not all that much.
According to the patch notes via the PlayStation 5 console, it reads:
- We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
- We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
- We’ve updated the DualSense Edge wireless controller device software to improve stability.
So yeah, that’s it, nothing exciting. Though I suppose it's nice for those that have purchased the DualSense Edge wireless controller at least.

It seems that much of a Reddit post is not impressed with the latest update and is having fun roasting the latest firmware.
“The patch also made the PS5 waterproof,” joked ToiletBlaster247. “Performance AND stability. Really spoiling us,” said EarthInfern0. “Glad they fixed the stability - the other day it was rocking forth and back on a tiny shelf I put it on, so this is a game changer,” added matkata99.

At the end of the day, update 23.01-07.20.00 is, let’s say, a bit on the boring side. Still, not every system update won’t bring a wealth of new features and people would certainly have more to complain about if reported bugs were not fixed by Sony.
That being said, Redditor user kabooozie asked: “I wonder when we’ll get a UI overhaul. Cards and menus are a mess. PS4 has a way better interface,” and to be honest, I kind of agree. Hopefully, the PS5 dashboard will have a nice makeover one day and will implement dynamic themes as seen on the PS3 and PS4.
