A snippet of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater has been remade in Unreal Engine 4, and the results are simply stunning. I mean, a Metal Gear Solid 3 "soft" reboot on the PlayStation 5 would fly off the shelves, and this only just proves that statement.

This is the amazing work of Warpgazer Animations, which in fact began their joint career with fan movies of Warhammer 40,000, and have since graduated into "top tier quality fan animations, for free, for everyone." Now, there's something to clear up before we get into the weeds of this remake. It is an animated scene in Unreal Engine 4 which has been rendered in real-time and offered in 4K resolution on YouTube. It's not possible to download this project to play it for yourself, and it's not part of a larger remake spearheaded by Warpgazer Animations. However, it is a breathtaking glimpse at what a professional reboot of the iconic action-adventure game from the early 2000s m. Think of it as a portal to another dimension - one where Konami totally didn't stack it with Metal Gear Survive and the property continued to soar to higher heights.

Released in celebration of Easter, the scene is Snake's Ladder. In the original 2004 game, Naked Snake kills the sniper nicknamed The End, and continues on his journey to the summit of the Krasnogorje mountains. The only way up is this ladder, and it takes the player three whole minutes to climb. No cutscene, no respite. One hundred and eighty seconds of incessant ascent. The sound of Snake's gloves on the metal becomes a sort of percussion themselves, until an a capella version of "Snake Eater" fades into the silence. What a thrill.

Warpgazer Animation ensures that their recreation of this scene is equally as introspective as the original, though the long takes and camera angles are a little more dynamic here. The detail here also impresses the darkness and the dinginess of the tower, and the brilliant contrast when the character surveys the area over the rocks. You might even spot a familiar froggy face at one point in the video.

This isn't the only remake project out there. BeesWX boasted of their Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater recreated in Metal Gear Solid V, and we just can't get enough. Progress is looking very promising, and the team is seeking developers to help out on the game through its Discord. It's not a bad use of your time while Konami itself is apparently intending to hand out its biggest properties, like Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, and Silent Hill, to other studios to refresh with their own flair. It's all very curious.
