PlayStation 5 Launch Games Are 'Best Lineup In The History Of PlayStation'

Here comes the hype train.

Sony certainly sounds confident about the PlayStation 5 launch lineup. In a new interview, Sony Interactive Entertainment's global head of marketing Eric Lempel was busy talking up the next-gen console's first few games as the best in PlayStation history. Obviously the dude whose job it is to make PlayStation look good would say this... but it's a bold claim all the same.

Speaking to GamesIndustry about the PlayStation 5's newly launched ad campaign, Lempel teased what we can expect for the first few weeks with our new consoles.

"Once you get beyond all of the features of the PlayStation 5, which makes it a true next-generation product, it's about the content," he said. The exec went on to describe the PS5's early lineup as "incredibly exciting", even claiming that it's "the best line-up that we've ever seen in the history of PlayStation". Wow.

Sony has yet to detail all of the games that will be available when the PlayStation 5 launches in a few months, but we have some idea of what to expect. Based on what we've heard, it seems Spider-Man: Miles Morales is almost certainly releasing alongside the console. Given that Marvel's Spider-Man is one of the most successful games in PlayStation history, that's probably a smart move.

Beyond that, we're not really sure what other first-party titles - if any - will launch with the PS5. We can assume that Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will lend some third-party weight to the console, but these will also be launching with the Xbox Series X.

It'll certainly be interesting to see if the PS5 launch lineup lives up to this hype. It doesn't have to do much to beat the PlayStation 4's initial run of games, the biggest of which was probably, um... Knack. Yeah, not great.

To be completely honest, the PlayStation 3 wasn't much better from the looks of it. Beyond Resistance: Fall Of Man, which is fine, the PS3 launch wasn't anything to write home about. Given the relatively low bar provided by its predecessors, maybe the PS5 having the best launch lineup in PlayStation history isn't such a ballsy thing to say after all.
