The PlayStation 5 finally launched here in the UK yesterday, and gamers around the country have spent the last day getting acquainted with their new consoles. Unfortunately, as is the case with any next-gen launch, there have been a few delays and several setbacks for some customers.

Those who ordered from UK retailer GAME seem to have run into the most problems, as numerous customers received an order update just one day before the console was due to arrive informing them of potential delays. Needless to say, people weren't exactly thrilled about this unexpected development.

As you can see from the above tweet from reporter Jordan Oloman, GAME seemed to lay the blame on the fact that the PlayStation 5 is an absolute unit. Its massive size, the retailer argued, was part of the reason that ensuring timely UK-wide delivery was a challenge.

"Due to the volume of PlayStation 5's in the UK market and the size of the product, the launch has led to UK wide delivery challenges for all retailers and couriers," GAME said in its statement. The retailer went on to imply that any anger should be directed towards its delivery partner, YODEL, for issues in its delivery network.

"For reasons beyond the control of GAME, YODEL have informed us today (18th November), that not all orders due to be delivered by them will be delivered on release day," the statement continued. "This is due to capacity issues in their delivery network and may mean that your tracking information is not fully updated until Friday."

Amazingly, it wasn't long before YODEL clapped back at GAME and disappointed gamers were left watching two companies fight it out while wondering if they'd be able to play their PS5 in time for the weekend.

"We have been consistently clear on the order volumes we are able to carry for them and it is deeply disappointing that YODEL's name has been incorrectly used in an email to customers on the status of orders," said a YODEL spokesperson in a statement given to the BBC. Fortunately, it looks as if this issue wasn't too widespread, and the majority of GAME customers did get their PS5 yesterday. Those who didn't should be getting it today, or at least at some point over the weekend.
