Few can deny that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim isn't one of the most popular fantasy RPGs in its genre with the game still going strong despite releasing over a decade ago.

Released in 2011 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Bethesda’s Skyrim has been ported to every platform generation since that time. The constant releases of Skyrim have become somewhat of a meme over the years, but if people stopped buying it, then it wouldn't have been ported so often and dubbed a “cash cow”. Luckily, Skyrim is still a fantastic game today and is continually supported by its ever-vibrant modding community.

The most recent full release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the Special Edition which was released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016 and was followed up by a next-gen update in 2021 with the Anniversary upgrade in celebration of its then 10th birthday.

“Winner of more than 200 Game of the Year Awards, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition brings the epic fantasy to life in stunning detail. The Special Edition includes the critically acclaimed game and add-ons with all-new features,” reads the description of the Skyrim Special Edition.

One example of a fantastic mod for Skyrim is called ‘Beyond Reach’. This mod takes place in High Rock (a rumoured location of The Elder Scrolls VI) and brings new quests of conspiracy said to be sown together by both men and the gods. Which sounds very ominous indeed. The mod is created by razorkid with the aid of a talented team of indie developers and voice actors. Assets were also used from the popular ‘Beyond Skyrim’ mod.

‘Beyond Reach’ also features new characters, factions, dungeons, weapons, armour and much more. ‘Beyond Reach’ is free to download and play via Nexusmods. You will need a copy of Skyrim Special Edition on PC and be at least level five in the game.

“Exploration is a key feature of this mod, with multiple shortcuts and unlikely routes making your trek across the region more exhilarating, yet more dangerous. Quality voice acting and an engrossing Main Quest will have you immersed in the harrowing story of a downtrodden land and people,” reads the description of the mod.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It’s also included in Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost.
