Squid Game is getting an American remake, because nothing is sacred

The popular Netflix series Squid Game is reportedly getting an American remake because nothing is sacred.

The popular Netflix series Squid Game is reportedly getting an American remake because apparently, nothing is sacred.

When the South Korean series, Squid Game launched on Netflix on 17 September 2021, it was nearly impossible not to hear others in close proximity talk about this dastardly game show series, not to mention being a continuously trending topic on social media.

Within its first four weeks of release, Squid Game became the most-watched program on the Netflix platform across 94 countries viewed by 142 million subscribers, and garnering 1.65 billion hours of views. So to say that Squid Game was a success on a mass scale would be an understatement and at least we can take comfort that it’s unlikely this series will be cancelled by Netflix anytime soon.

America is no stranger to wanting to remake films and TV programs from other countries. The Ring, The Grudge, The Raid, and Bullet Train all spring to mind, to name but a few. All of which divides opinion as to who did it best. So it should come as no surprise that America is looking to remake another popular product, the aforementioned Squid Game.

As reported by Comicbook.com, according to Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic podcast, Netflix is looking to remake a western version of Squid Game and it will be produced by David Fincher (Seven, Zodiac, Gone Girl).

In all fairness, while America likes to remake everything, it does feel strange that Netflix would want to comission a western version of Squid Game, especially with season two on the way.

What’s more, if it does happen, it will be interesting to see if it can repeat the success of the South Korean original and if it will spark brutal, real-life adaptations. Only time will tell. We’ll keep you posted if we hear further news on this developing story.
