'Squid Game' Season 2 Officially Announced By Netflix Alongside Details

Last week was Netflix Geeked Week, and chances are, even if you weren’t aware of that fact, you probably still saw the onslaught of news and announcements to come from it. A new trailer for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 anime series, Edgerunners? You got it. A behind-the-scenes glimpse at the live-action One Piece show? Yup, we got that too. The reveal and trailer for a brand new animated Dragon Age series? Holy moly.

Well, even though Geeked Week came to a close on Friday, yesterday, we got the news that many Netflix viewers are likely to be the most excited about. But hey, you already read the headline, right? That’s right - Squid Game season two is officially happening.

Before we get into it, take a look at the new trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners right here.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever,” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk wrote in a statement, shared by Netflix on Twitter. “As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.

“And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season [two] is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su,” he continued. “Join us once more for a whole new round.”

If you feel like you’re experiencing some déjà vu, don’t worry. Squid Game’s second season has been essentially confirmed a couple of times already, the first time by Hwang in November last year, and later by Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, earlier this year, who said: “Absolutely it’s happening, the Squid Game universe has just begun.”

There’s currently no confirmed release window, but it all sounds exciting, right? We haven’t seen him yet, but I’m sure that Young-hee’s boyfriend is going to haunt my dreams when the next season airs sometime in the future.
