Star Wars: Carrie Fisher to receive posthumous Hollywood Walk Of Fame star

Over six years on from her sudden death, Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Legendary American actress Carrie Fisher will be receiving a Hollywood Walk of Fame star next week on 4 May (AKA Star Wars Day) to honour her incredible legacy.

Fisher sadly passed away in 2016 at the age of 60, but she’ll always be known and loved within the Star Wars fanbase for her portrayal of Princess Leia. She played the character in the original trilogy as well as in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi - she also appeared in The Rise of Skywalker thanks to some unreleased footage.

Disney+’s next Star Wars show, Ahsoka, is set to release this August. Take a look at the trailer below.

As WhatToWatch reports, Fisher’s ceremony is happening on Hollywood Boulevard, and her daughter, Billie Lourd, will be accepting the award on her behalf. Responding to the news, Fisher’s co-star and Star Wars icon Mark Hamill tweeted: “Long overdue and so well deserved.”

“Fans will be over the moon to know that their favourite movie princess, Carrie Fisher will be honoured with her star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame! Carrie will join her Star Wars co-stars and fellow Walk of Famers Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford on this historic sidewalk,” Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame said in a press release. “I am happy to add, that her star is just a few feet away from the star of Mark Hamill and across the street from the star of her legendary mother Debbie Reynolds!”

Fans are thrilled about the news: “She absolutely deserves it she is an icon[,] a legend[,] missing you Carrie,” @RealMona_ wrote. “So well deserved. She was an absolute legend,” added @lifestylecritic. “Our eternal Princess Leia,” tweeted @TheEvilAnjel.

Fisher’s will be the 2,754th star on the Walk of Fame. The ceremony will be live-streamed on the day at 19:30 UK time here.
