If you’ve ever wondered what the Force feels like, PlayStation 5 is here to give you a taste of the real deal (well, as close to it as possible), thanks to their DualSense controller.
Game Director, Stig Asmussen, explained that the Respawn team behind Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have made sure to take advantage of the responsive capabilities of the PS5 controller, delivering a much more authentic experience for budding Jedis.
“With the PS5, we’re really digging the haptics and what the controller is bringing, and it's been a lot of fun to see how that works with push and pull [Force powers]," explains Asmussen in the latest PlayStation Blog post. "A [DualSense] controller, it feels really good, and we're taking advantage of that. You're going to feel it on the triggers when you're doing push and pull. If you really [push] on the triggers, it's going to give a different response. Compared to if you’re lightly feathering them, and the game is going to react to that. It's the nuance within the vibrations on the controller that is pretty outstanding."

This development isn’t just down to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor releasing on new-gen consoles rather than on the PS4 and Xbox One, but to do with the overarching narrative of the Star Wars Jedi franchise. “One thing I think we looked at in the first game is that that power curve came in a little bit too late,” says Asmussen.
“You didn’t really start feeling like you had [power], which is by design, you’re this raw and incomplete Padawan that hasn’t been trained in years. We wanted the player to feel that. And it’s around 60% into the first game, you start to feel like, ‘hey, I got a lot of powers right now that I can use to manipulate and eventually dominate both combat and the environment.’ And we definitely want that to come in a little bit sooner on this game because Cal is further along on his path.”
Being able to fully experience what Cal does is certainly a boon to this much anticipated sequel, but there’s plenty of other new features on offer, like blaster combat, and some big story altering choices to make. However, those are gameplay mechanics that anyone can enjoy, while the DualSense is exclusive to PS5 players. I wonder if anyone will listen to Christopher Judge’s plea to end console wars after this?
Although feeling the Force will take on a new meaning for PS5 fans, GAMINGbible has no doubt that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is going to be a stellar video game, especially if the initial previews are anything to go by.
