The Last Jedi is the worst of Star Wars' sequel trilogy, says John Boyega

To say that the Star Wars sequel trilogy was a mixed bag would be an understatement. In fact, many would argue that it was a total disaster.

While there’s still some definite highlights here and there, many have heavily criticised the consistency of the sequel trilogy in the years since its release. The change of director in The Last Jedi seemed to throw things off a bit, as it was directed by Rian Johnson as opposed to J.J. Abrams, who directed both The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker.

Now, as The A.V. Club reports, Star Wars sequel trilogy star John Boyega has spoken out about his personal thoughts on the three films. Speaking to First We Feast on a new episode of Truth or Dab: Rapid Fire, which was shared on Twitter yesterday, the actor was asked to rank the three Star Wars movies he starred in from best to worst.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens is most definitely the best. Second for me comes in at Star Wars IX [The Rise of Skywalker], and the worst - in the most respectful sense - is Episode VIII [The Last Jedi] for me. But they’re all lovely,” Boyega said, giving the camera some side-eye at the end to suggest that that perhaps some of the sequel films are more “lovely” than others.

Last year, when speaking on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Boyega revealed that he can’t bring himself to look at the leaked script from when Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow was meant to be the one directing and writing The Rise of Skywalker, because he’d be “heartbroken”.

“Hopefully, Lucasfilm can give him an opportunity down the line to maybe work on something else, you know?” Boyega said of Trevorrow at the time. “Because I’m sure they would love to collaborate with him again in any capacity.”
