If something is good, why not make it bigger? Better? That was Infinity Ward and Activision's logic with the development of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and you'll be both flabbergasted and flummoxed to find out that there is stock in the phrase, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
The developer had high hopes for the successor like it wasn't aware that its consumers were people who play Call of Duty. Last month, Warzone 2.0's Steam listing was awash with negative reviews, with players snarkily asking for their money back for a free game, and a few even had a gig going playing the derided DMZ mode and selling the M13B Assault Rifle to those who couldn't be bothered.

Still, a lot of work has gone into the game and it's in Infinity Ward's interest to crowbar back the interest and influence that the original Warzone had. The leaked Resurgence map seems to be one of these strategies but it hasn't been met with excitement. In fact, the community is already convinced that this map will be a flop.

"I miss Rebirth/Fortune’s Keep like crazy and wish Activision had not removed those maps, but they have. Any WZ2 Resurgence mode will feel like garbage in comparison and will not scratch the same itch," said Reddit user DefunctHunk. Industry insider TheGhostofHope echoed this, adding that Warzone 2.0's mechanics are a major sticking point. "I expect to see a spike in player counts and then a massive fall off again because it’s nothing like WZ1's iteration of Resurgence which actually played well," they asserted.
"People got into WZ1 specifically Rebirth/Resurgence because they hated those other games/BR styles. And then they just shut the game down after 2 years of fan/player base lmao," commented Reddit user mvk2424. Time will tell on this front.
