Warzone 2.0 players are already confused by game's install process

The wait is almost over - the sequel to Call of Duty: Warzone, Warzone 2.0, is finally releasing tomorrow, to the horror of people with jobs (and their employers) everywhere. Seriously, on a Wednesday? To those who thought ahead and already got the day off, I salute you.

Anyway, ahead of the game’s actual release, players are able to preload the title so that they’re able to play right from the moment it launches, which is a relief when you consider how huge of a download it is. However, as reported by GamesRadar+, this process has proven to be a bit confusing.

The whole issue boils down to the game’s link to Modern Warfare II. Warzone 2.0 is a free-to-play title, and you don’t need to buy the recently released MWII in order to play it (although those who do will be given an experience point boost to the end of 2023). However, you do need the MWII launcher in order to access it, which has made finding the game on some platforms more complicated than you’d expect.

On PC, things are straightforward - searching for Warzone 2.0 will lead users straight to a dedicated page to install the game. Meanwhile, on PS5, typing in the name of the title would make you think that it doesn’t exist at all, as there are no results - you instead have to search for MWII, and then click on “options” to find it. It’s a similar process on Xbox - the game can be located on an “editions” page for MWII, and then downloaded as an add-on.

On Twitter, the devs warned that “prior to launch, you may be prompted to purchase MWII, which is not necessary to experience Warzone 2.0”, so don’t worry about buying the game if you don’t want it, everything should still work fine.
