Zelda director wants a movie following Super Mario Bros. success

If your social media feed is anything like mine, it is full of one thing and one thing only right now. Yes, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

It’s a game that’s being hailed as one of the greatest games of all-time. In our own review, GAMINGbible’s Ewan wrote, “Tears Of The Kingdom effortlessly dances between the epic and the ridiculous - and every single moment in this vast, gorgeous playground will be completely unique to each player. I don’t know how, but Nintendo managed to follow a straight-up masterpiece with something bigger, better, and smarter.” In the days since release, players have been using Fuse and Ultrahand to create giant penises … of course they have. They also can’t stop torturing poor Koroks, but we’re here to talk about something far less cursed.

After the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Zelda’s creators are interested in making their own animated flick - and surely the success of TotK will only amplify that desire. In a recent interview with Polygon, TotK producer Eihi Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi opened up about the possibility of a Zelda film adaptation.

Aonuma answered, “I have to say, I am interested. For sure. But it’s not just me being interested in something that makes things happen unfortunately.” Fujibayashi added, “Maybe the voice of the fans is what’s important here.” Did you hear that? If you want a Zelda film, you’ve got to let Nintendo know.

As I’m sure you’re aware, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a colossal success. Despite receiving underwhelming reviews from critics, the film has already earned $1 billion at the box office. You’d imagine that a sequel is on the cards. The post-credits scene certainly seemed to suggest that’s the case.
