Despite us being less than two weeks on from Modern Warfare II’s release, Call of Duty fans are already getting ready for the next game release. Warzone 2.0, the highly anticipated sequel to the free-to-play battle royale Warzone, is launching next Wednesday (16 November) alongside the first season of MWII.
There’s plenty to be excited for, but one mode in particular has caught fans’ attention. As reported by Dexerto, Warzone 2.0’s upcoming DMZ mode is seemingly Infinity Ward’s take on the extraction shooter Escape from Tarkov, which, on paper, sounds pretty great.

“DMZ is an open-world, narrative-focused extraction mode where Operator squads have free rein to complete faction-based missions, take on additional side objectives, engage with enemy Operators or AI combatants, and search for valuable items, all while fighting to survive toward exfiltration,” Infinity Ward wrote in a post on the Call of Duty blog.

Yesterday though, content creators were given the chance to try the mode for the first time, and based on their reactions (and those from the fans watching them)…it’s a bit of a mixed bag. On Twitter, many have complained that it doesn’t really seem like Escape from Tarkov at all.
Warzone content creator @IceManIsaac believes that the mode should be delayed: “Right now the game feels pointless. We're looting all game just to extract some XP? No stash, no quest lines, no marketplace, no in-game economy?” he tweeted. “Am I missing something? I was super excited for this game mode, but it just looks like plunder with AI and extractions.”
“I expected DMZ on CoD to be more gritty, slower paced, darker, but then that is what makes Tarkov, Tarkov. I will try it but just won’t be my bread [and] butter,” wrote @chitchatgaming. “I watched the CoD DMZ footage today... I thought about it and so far it's killed all the hype I've had for this mode. Not saying I'm not gonna give it a try but out of what I've seen I have no idea exactly what I would be working towards,” tweeted @WolfScotchy.

Others are more optimistic: “Excited for DMZ. It seems like a cross between Hunt: Showdown and CoD. Looks like something my friends and I will spend hours playing,” @Jcom086 said. “Genuinely excited for DMZ. Tarkov is great so let’s see how CoD does it,” wrote @Kuhher.
The mode will be releasing on Warzone 2.0’s launch next week, so there’s not long to wait before everyone can try it.
