50,000 lines of dialogue was apparently binned before launch.

The upcoming DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077 will add "a lot to the crazy and cool ideas" that were minimised or even missing from the launch of the dystopian role-playing game.

It's no secret that Cyberpunk 2077 didn't ship in shipshape. Upon the news of the third delay to the game, the studio affirmed that the final fortnight would guarantee that the project's debut would be smooth sailing. In spite of wavering share prices over the course of 2020, the game looked like it would be on track to become one of the biggest games of the year, and would mop up awards at The Game Awards 2021. This did come true, to an extent. Though its performance on PCs was rather reliable, Cyberpunk 2077 was a shambles on last-gen consoles, featuring tiny trees all over Night City, melting faces, possessed cars, and more crashes than you could shake a stick at.

"We underestimated the scale and complexity of the issues. We ignored the signals about the need for additional time to refine the game on the base last-gen consoles. It was the wrong approach and against our business philosophy," said co-CEO Adam Kicinski of the fiasco. Xbox and PlayStation players were able to ask for a refund for the game (some were shocked to learn they couldn't keep it afterwards), and actually, the game had seen stratospheric success towards the end of December. Thirteen million copies were sold after launch, and adding that to the eight million pre-orders secured before launch, Cyberpunk 2077 is the very definition of a golden goose. A golden, glitchy goose. And they all lived happily ever after.

Sort of. CD Projekt Red are rolling out patches which address the numerous technical hiccups in the game, though they have thankfully taken a break over the winter period. Moreover, we learned that the next lot of free DLC is on the horizon, and according to this anonymous employee, it will include content that was left on the cutting room floor during development. Understandably, a fair few things were dropped as the company attempted to meet its goals across Cyberpunk 2077's four separate versions. It looks like we'll see these elements return though, which is fortunate for the team's time and efforts spent on the game.

It isn't confirmed, but some of these additions may be "a huge underground part of the city," which "felt like the malkavian/nosferatu path on Vampire the Masquerade." The employee continues to claim that "most apartments with 'Closed (locked)' indications used to be lootable, we've scrapped 50,000+ lines of dialogue and I believe the June update will bring a whole lot of cut content back into the game." Finally, the "crazy and cool" ideas from the original creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG, Mike Pondsmith, will step into the spotlight, including "Morgan Blackhand's backstory and a nod to the [Corporate] Wars." We've got our fingers crossed for an official announcement.Featured Image Credit: CD Projekt Red
