The Most Popular Hot Tub Stream Yet Was Absolutely Horrifying

With 400,000 concurrent viewers, was it worth it?

The most viewed hot tub stream of all time on Twitch has to be seen to be believed, but a warning to the wise: it does feature wet socks. Ugh. Proceed with caution.

Over the last month, Twitch has been immersed in a hot tub stream controversy where those who partook were vilified for their "inappropriate" content yet their popularity continued to climb in spite of the criticism. The majority of hot tub streamers were women and there were arguments that sitting and chatting while in a swimsuit is unprofessional and unacceptable on the platform. Unsurprisingly, a lot of the detractors were men, including Félix "xQc" Lengyel, one of the biggest names on Twitch. "I'm gonna be honest, this hot tub meta is by far the most pathetic thing we've seen on Twitch in forever. What a sad reality. Please get this trash off the front page," he said of the trend. On the other hand, Kaitlyn "Amouranth" Siragusa defended her hot tub streams, explaining that there are misconceptions that spiral out of control. "There are two re-occurring themes that people go back to - 1) Twitch is for gaming or 2) Twitch is unfair towards male streamers - alternatively, Twitch is more lenient on female streamers," she told Kotaku.

Well, when there isn't infighting on Twitch, it's home to some of the most unbelievable moments on the Internet. Check out our compilation of ridiculous wins and incredible fails below.

Now that there's a dedicated "Pools, Hot Tubs, and Beaches" category on Twitch, the ire looks to have cooled off somewhat, especially as wildlife live streams took over the trend with ease. However, comic hot tub streams are gaining traction, and last week, George "GeorgeNotFound'' Davidson streamed the most popular hot tub stream in the history of hot tub streams. Which is, appreciably, not a very long history. 400,000 concurrent viewers tuned into the spectacle, but what did it cost him?

His "EPIC HOT TUB STREAM" saw the streamer submerge himself fully clothed into a makeshift container of water. It was so makeshift that it started leaking at one point which made me especially concerned for all of that tech nearby. Davidson also had a colourful prize wheel with challenges like "prank call," "egg on head," "eyebrow slit," and "outfit change." Pouring Coca Cola and breaking eggs into the water, he even ended up drinking the water as it was one of the prompts on the wheel. Davidson's motive for enduring such a strange set of events was that he had a new merch store to announce, with hoodies, wristbands and water bottles.

"Alright guys, I hope you enjoyed this stream," he said towards the end. "I can just smell egg, and this is disgusting...I feel, like, sick. I think the bathwater has made me sick. But yeah, guys, go check out the merch." Props to him, I suppose.
